Audi introduce the new Audi R8 Spyder
With an air of excitement mixed with a sense of inevitability, Audi unveiled the convertible, or Spyder, version of its R8 supercar at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Thanks to both weight and, no doubt, engineering issues, the R8 Spyder doesn’t feature a folding metal roof, just a mechanically operated cloth top.
At launch, the only engine available will be the R8 coupe’s top-of-the-line 386kW/530Nm 5.2-litre V10 that can rocket the roof-less R8 to 100km/h in 4.1s and from there to 200km/h in a total of 12.7s; top speed is 313km/h.
The R8 is the first car to boast microphones built into the driver’s seatbelt. The aim is to make Bluetooth hands-free calls a reality even with the top down and the wind in the hair. Three mics are located along the belt, with the company reasoning that at least one will be at the right height to pick up the driver’s voice. An additional mic is situation on the windscreen frame, just in case.
The covertible R8 will will be launching in Europe at the beginning of next year with prices starting at R1,6million. We can be expecting it here around the end of 2010 beginning of 2011.

I hope they dont introducing a cloth roof, Lambo has a soft top roof. But come on its a super car, wheres the automatic hard top???

Blair: I think its hot… I drove past one yesterday, not the topless R8, just normal and it looked to good. The topless one for me, looks sleek and more mature, to say the least? the two vents on the back look sick! I want one…
