Spring Stance 2012 Edition

After going through one stressful week at work, I’ve decided to make a turn at the annual Spring Stance event. In the past all VAG owners used to take a drive and meet up at a certain spot, chillaxing and sharing ideas with other modfathers and sisters until law enforcement came along and spoiled most of the car culture fun. So, to keep the peace the event organizers decided to host it in a safe environment. This annual event took place at Buren High School in Brooklyn on Saturday 27 October, which kind of dampened the spirit but what can we do, we are law abiding citizens. Right? Lol, well, kind of. On arrival, I was greeted with some of the finest German metal modified on the Cape Flats and I literally drooled by just looking at these fine machines. I really admire the passion these guys have for their VAG rides, as well as the time, effort and money they’ve spent. Personal favorite must be the rides from the Outlaw Air Worx stable. These cars were literally cutting the grass with their air suspensions, something that is a must if want to go really low without the worries of Metro claiming your license disc. A number of car clubs also came out to show support with the likes of Extreme Vdubs, Volk Edition, the Mark 4 Club with DUBstance claiming the overall Club Display winners. As always there must be a “King of Stance” and this year Fabian Petersen’s stanced mk3 Golf GTi was crowned as king. Most people still have a misperception about what “Stance” is and somehow he just managed to pull it off, almost to perfection.
Here are some helpful tips to clear up most of the “Stance-look” misperception…
Stance is the combination of wheels/tires/offsets/drop/kit that compliments the car properly. For starters, it’s all about the wheel and suspension setup. It’s about how to adjust a car’s camber, ride height, and spacing, so that the sidewall of the tire sits as flush as possible with the fender and quarter panel. Typically, the tires are tucked way inside the vehicles fenders. In order to have a hell of a flush stance, you need to require some wide wheels with tires that are stretched just to fit onto the wheels also and very important, the car has to have an excessive amount of negative camber. Modifying of the fender and panels is like almost a must to get that hell of a flush look.
Personally, I think it was one good event well organized by “The Prime Ministah”, Graeme Watts and SSJ Concepts. Over 400 German branded cars came out to show support. I think I have developed German measles instead of goosebumps and simply can’t wait for the next Spring Stance event. Until then, God Bless…JK
