How to prepare your car for a road trip

Its December month, the festive season and time for that long awaited holiday (sigh). Most of us are planning taking a long trip to place or town, away from home! I am one of many people that are having concerns about taking a car on long trips, especially if the car is getting old. According to research, long trips are actually
easier on your car than day-to-day driving, but a breakdown far from home can really ruin your fun and can be costly. A few simple checks will save you a lot …

A reason to use Polyurethane bushes

We all know what it’s like to suffer from sore joints (some more than others). Even if you are the fittest of bunch, you are bound to feel your joint pain once in a while. Your vehicle joints work the same. The bushings found on the control arms and various mounts are like the cartilage between your joints. The manufacturer normally equips a vehicle with rubber bushes, which provide a soft ride. Over time the rubbers begins to wear from oil with the help of other elements. That’s when the …

A busy weekend with my green tanker

While most of you as petrol heads were busy gearing up for different events like the EMMA and Street to Strip, I was busy sorting out my “green tanker”. A couple of weeks ago I took my car for wheel alignment and to my shock, they told me that I needed to replace my steering rack. What? I decided to go for a second opinion. I had to replace it! After collecting dust (my car) for 3 weeks, I decided to replace the rack …

Who the hell is Barend

A little about “yours truly”
I remember as a kid I could tell you the make and model of every car on the roads. Since then the cars have gotten a little more clever and I didn’t, but the passion remained skulking in the background like unpaid speeding fines, just waiting to come and klap me in the face and let me know that it’s here!
My first rebuild was my old Bantam Bakkie (complete with unpaid fines). It all started when I bought the car and the key was broken, so …

The G-spot Lounge Park Off

I received an invite from Ivan, owner of the Mk1 & Mk2 Cortina club, to show off my ride at “The G-spot Lounge” in Epping Industria on the 31st October. This was in support of a jazz/salsa competition, a fundraising event in aid of an orphanage home, “Huis Leerport”, Kuilsriver. The “Park Off” started at 2 o’clock followed by the jazz/salsa competition at 8 o’clock. With weather like that, it was sure to be a nice turn out!
All petrol heads had to meet at the Total Garage behind Grand West Casino, Goodwood, at 13:30. By the time I got there, a number of cars were already standing in the parking area- all of them surrounded by “Wild Envy”.

Henry Fords production story

So Iv got a bit of a rather interesting story for you this time round. We all know Henry Ford correct?
Just in case you don’t, he was the founder of Ford Motor Company. The man introduced the production line to the factories and also revolutionised the way companies are run today i.e. Mass Production. This is how the story unfolds.
Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company on June 16, 1903, his cars were being sold left right and center. Unfortunately for his workers they would work Monday to Monday from …
